Management Accountant Job Description

We generally look for Management Accountants on behalf of our clients due to expansion within the business or as a replacement. We also recruit for Interim Management Accountants. Management accountants usually report to the Financial Controller or Finance Director.

Experience working in one of our specialist fields would be highly beneficial;

Management Accountant Key Responsibilities

• Business partnering with relevant managers within the company in order to provide financial support and information

• Liaising with and reporting to the Financial Controller or Finance Director

• Overseeing preparation of the monthly management accounts pack, inclusive of the monthly P&L and balance sheet

• Managing and developing other accountancy staff

• Updating the annual forecast monthly including the preparation of the commentary

• Preparing the annual budget

• Improving controls and procedures

• Depending on the size of the organisation this role may be more hands

• Full month end procedures as well closing month end

Management accountant Skills & Requirements

• CIMA, or ACCA Qualified

• Good understanding of month end procedures

• Staff management background

• Excellent communicator

• Proven ability of working under pressure;

• Strong IT skills

Remuneration

Salaries for a Management accountant vary depending on experience and company size:

• Management accountants in a £500m+ business should expect a salary between £50,000 to £60,000

• Management accountants in a <£500m business should expect a salary between £35,000 to £55,000

Career Progression

Most Management accountants would look to take the natural step to Financial Controller with 2 to 5 years solid experience behind them. Alternatively FP&A positions would be good options further down the line.
