Financial Controller Job Description

Financial Controller Job Specification

We generally look for Financial Controllers on behalf of our clients due to expansion within the business or as a replacement. We also recruit for Interim Financial Controllers. Financial Controllers usually report to the Finance Director / CFO.

Key responsibilities

• Take responsibility for ensuring that the financial processes, systems and controls are operating effectively

• Responsibility for maintaining statutory records for the business

• Preparation of all consolidated Statutory Accounts

• Budget preparation

• Review of all management accounts packs

• Managing transactional team and overseeing/reviewing sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, cash posting and all general ledger entries.

• Handling VAT, PAYE and Tax duties, including corporation tax.

• Liaise with auditors and preparing audit packs

• Project management of process changes and implementations

Financial Controller Job Skills & Requirements

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent

• Good understanding of PAYE and VAT

• Exceptional staff management background

• Minimum of two years experience at Financial Controller level

• Excellent communicator

• Project management

• Proven ability of working under pressure;

• Strong IT skills

Experience working in one of our specialist fields would be highly beneficial;

Remuneration

Salaries for a Financial Controller vary depending on experience and company size:

Financial Controllers in a <£500m business should expect a salary between £50,000 to £120,000

Financial Controllers in a £500m+ business should expect a salary between £80,000 to £200,000

Most Financial Controllers would look to take the natural step to Finance Director with 2 to 5 years solid experience behind them.
